I was just goofing around on the internet and found this site. My name is Mike Murphy and I live in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. I'd like you to know that my roots are firmly planted in Caslean Nua. My father, Chris Murphy, was was born there in 1930 and raised in his parents home on the Churchtown Road, directly across from the cemetery. He left Irelend and emigrated to Canada, by way of Bermuda, in the early 1950's. His home was just up the street from Jimmy and Bawnie Conway, if those names ring a bell with anyone. As a matter of fact, there is a family grave plot in the cemetery with the names of my father, his sister and parents on it. Chirs, Margie, Michael and Lena Murphy. I've been to Newcastle West, but many years ago. It's a bit hazy but my father took me to the stram behind the cemetery where he used to fish for supper. If I'm not mistaken, Dennis Healey lived there as well. My mom was telling me he just passed away. I'm not sure how many of the older people would remember my father, aunt Margie or his parents but if you pass the word around town and anyone does remember the Murphy's from Churchtown Road, please let them know the Murphy connection to Newcastle West and the Churchtown Road is alive and well, although it's almost half a world away.
